Timaya urges Nigerians to vote wisely, warns against four more years of hardship

Nigerian singer Timaya has urged Nigerians to look beyond immediate personal benefits when making decisions at the polls, saying their choices could have consequences for the country over the next four years.

Speaking during a recent interview on Wazobia FM, the singer cautioned voters against allowing their immediate needs to determine how they vote.

According to Timaya, accepting short-term benefits without considering the broader consequences could leave Nigerians facing difficulties for another four years.

“Nobody is advising anybody. If what you want to eat today is what you are looking for to put in your pocket, that is your business. It is not just one day; it is another four years of hardship. If you know what is good, you have to vote right,” he said.

The singer also questioned the commitment of politicians whom he claimed spend significant periods outside Nigeria with their families while holding political positions in the country.

Timaya said his experiences travelling abroad had exposed him to different living conditions and argued that politicians who are not regularly exposed to the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians could have a different perspective on the country’s challenges.

“When I travel abroad, I see what is going on there. Do you understand? And these people themselves, they don’t even stay in Nigeria. They live abroad. They just work in Nigeria, these politicians, but they are based abroad because that’s where their families are,” he said.

He further expressed frustration with politicians who promise to improve the country after assuming office, saying Nigerians continue to be uncertain about what the future holds.

Timaya said Nigerians have increasingly turned to God amid the difficulties confronting the country, while praying against anyone whose actions could worsen the situation.

“You see the way God is trying to make everything possible now? We depend on God. If there is anybody who will make this country cry again, God should just take that person,” he said.

He also stressed that the personal interests of politicians and their families should not outweigh the welfare of millions of Nigerians.

“Because the cry of the country right now is bigger than just one person. May God k+ll that person. Your selfish interest cannot be bigger than, or your family’s selfish interest cannot be bigger than, millions of people in the country,” he added.
